Recently Stephen Miller, a senior policy advisor to President Trump, said the judicial branch of government had no authority to overturn Trump's immigration ban. Miller needs to read the Constitution and learn about the separation of powers and our system of checks and balances. He went on to say that the president "is 100 percent correct" and that "the power of the president will not be questioned." Instead of denouncing such an autocratic statement Trump tweeted that Miller did a great job. "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis is a book that deals with the rise of a president who becomes a dictator to save the nation from welfare cheats, crime and a liberal press. According to one review, "it is a novel that foreshadows Donald Trump's authoritarian appeal." Another book, "1984" by George Orwell, is a reminder of how fragile our freedoms and democracy can be and how important it is to be vigilant and aware of trends that may destroy them. One might ask the most crucial question of all... given the authoritarian personality of Donald Trump, is America on the dangerous road to dictatorship during his administration? If so, then impeachment is on the horizon. www.recordonline.com/opinion/20170226/letter-authoritarianism-has-no-place-in-america
