Demonstrators led by Peter Tatchell disrupted a speech by Jeremy Corbyn yesterday in protest at his inaction over Syria. The Labour leader was silenced when protesters walked on stage carrying banners that read “Step up and demand action in Syria” and “End the suffering in Aleppo”. Tatchell compared the assault on the Syrian city to atrocities in the Spanish civil war and called on Corbyn to condemn Russian support for the dictator Bashar al-Assad. “We haven’t heard the leader of the Labour Party speak out enough to demand UK air drops to besieged civilians who are dying in their thousands,” the veteran activist said. www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/protest-at-corbyn-inaction-over-syria-8hbvpmxcx
