Christian fundamentalist schools: Ofsted result shows we are victims of an agenda A chain of private Christian fundamentalist schools, which teach creationism as scientific fact, claim they are victims of an “agenda” after Ofsted downgraded their inspection ratings. The watchdog visited the schools in October last year at the request of the Department for Education due to a number of complaints made by former pupils against the schools and the curriculum they teach. Overall, 10 out of 24 of the schools were re-inspected, after reports emerged in The Independent that children were “at risk” at the schools. The Ofsted reports published in December revealed that nine of the schools were subsequently downgraded. But according to a charity providing the schools with legal advice as they look into a potential judicial review of the reports, Ofsted is cracking down on Christian schools as part of the Government’s drive to ensure schools are promoting “British values”. “It’s part of an agenda against these schools,” Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, told Schools Week. “There are concerns around extremism and British values, and these schools have a very strong Christian ethos in the way they teach about marriage, morality and science, in which God is the creator. inews.co.uk/essentials/news/education/creationist-schools-say-victims-agenda/
