Congratulations to all of the public school teachers who landed jobs in wealthy communities. You are amazing and you shall be showered with cash bonuses. To all of you toiling in the poorer districts, you deserve only a pittance or nothing at all. How dare you even show up for work? Can you imagine a system in the United States that would enshrine such buffoonery? Of course, teachers in Indiana recently discovered that yet again, the state of Indiana does not value educators. Despite being warned by various groups before passing this new bonus system, our elected officials at the State House decided to plow ahead. I suppose our politicians thought by applying a business model upon a sociological setting, they could increase competition and run schools like businesses. They believe that students are widgets and superintendents are CEOs. Our legislators have once again failed our schools with a capital “F.” End this insulting system now and stop punishing teachers for elements that are out of their control. www.indystar.com/story/opinion/readers/2016/12/31/stop-punishing-teachers-work-poor-districts/95913290/
